Weber Court System & Jurisdictions

In Weber County, there are two main levels of the Utah state court system: the District Court and the Justice Court. Each of them handles different categories of cases, so it's important to understand where to apply.

Second District Court is a court of general jurisdiction located in Ogden. It handles:

  • Criminal cases — from felonies to some misdemeanors
  • Civil lawsuits with no monetary limit
  • Family cases: divorce, custody, alimony, protective orders
  • Probate and guardianship cases
  • Juvenile cases — through a separate division

Justice Courts within Weber County serve individual cities — Ogden, Roy, Riverdale, and other municipalities. These courts have limited jurisdiction.

  • Class B and C misdemeanors
  • Small claims up to $11,000
  • Traffic violations and other infractions

If you are unsure which court is handling your case, use the search on the Utah State Courts website — you can find information by party name or case number. Historical records of the Weber County probate court are available through the Utah State Archives index.

Weber Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

The schedule of hearings for today, tomorrow, or the current week is published on the Utah courts' website. Utah courts use a unified online calendar system.

  1. Go to Utah State Courts.
  2. Select the Court Calendars section.
  3. Choose the Second District Court or the desired Justice Court in Weber County.
  4. Specify the date or judge's name to see scheduled hearings.

The calendar shows the type of case, hearing time, and courtroom. The Weber County Sheriff's page also has links to court calendars for checking inmate hearing dates.

Note: The schedule may change without notice. If you need exact information about a specific hearing, call the court clerk's office in advance.

How to Get a Copy of a Weber Court Document

Copies of court documents can be obtained in several ways — online, in person, or by mail. The type of copy determines the procedure and cost.

Certified copy has the official court seal and confirms the document's authenticity. Such copies are usually required for submission to other authorities or for legal purposes. Uncertified copy is a regular printout without a seal, suitable for review.
